ABOUT IMB

Eric Kline is creator of the Inside the Music Business (IMB)
brand of products and services.
Kline also serves as Executive Producer of all IMB shows and events.
For the past sixteen years, Kline has been a
video Producer/Director whose area of specialty has
been on music and the music industry. His visions in the production of
music videos, commercials and documentaries, compilations have made
him a recognized name in the music business.
After completing an academic education in video and film production,
Kline met Max Gousse (who was then a computer Consultant and later
became a programming executive and legendary A&R/talent scout). Gousse
and Kline quickly became friends (Kline was directing videos
already) and within a year Kline began his music industry career as
promo producer under the legendary Les Garland at the Box Music
Network in 1991.
During his nine year tenure at the network, Kline rose up from
freelance producer to become Senior Producer and was entrusted with
the network’s most ambitious projects; he was an idea-man who
executed as on-site director, scriptwriter, interviewer,
post-production producer. He was credited for having an immense
impact on the look an direction of the music channel (which merged
into MTV2 in 2001).
As the inner workings of the music business started to change, and the
demand for knowledge and strategy increased, Kline decided to
develop an insider, easy to understand ‘how to’ approach for indie
artists and aspiring music business professionals. Inside the
Music Business the brand was born!
In late 1999, Kline self-published the book/2-CD set, Inside the
Music Business: The Power Players. It received both critical
and consumer acclaim - being called 'one of the best books written
on the music business.’ Featuring a who’s who of the music
business, the tome featured 40 of the most powerful industry
notables including Russell Simmons, Ice Cube, E-40, Michael Bivins,
Garland,
managers,
attorneys, songwriters and others. From there Inside the Music
Business products were developed, helping brand the name.
Kline developed a monthly audio series, coaching, and seminars.
In October, 2003 Inside the Music Business: The Weekly Radio
Show was launched as a ‘test’ on
one AM station in
Miami. Word spread as the show hit the Internet (which was quickly
becoming a feeding ground for the industry and reached an
International group of listeners.
In April of 2007, Kline created, executive produced and co-hosted
‘Strategies for Success’ (along with Adam Gaynor formerly of
Matchbox 20). Strategies was an all-genre seminar and
showcase with special guest speakers MC Serch, multi-platinum
Country Producer /Songwriter Steve Bogard and more than 30 other
executives, attorneys, songwriters.
Educational and retail versions of the event will be released in early
2008.
Shortly after the event Kline and MC Serch started discussing working
together. The result is that Serch and CC Carnie (Serch’s partner)
became equity partners in the company.
Serch will host the first nationally syndicated version of Inside the
Music Business: Weekly Radio Show in the indie format – launching
in May, 2008 MC Serch. A Country version is in development in
Nashville with Bogard who is also
President of NSAI (Nashville
Songwriters Association International).
